Which roof is right
for your home?
An honest look at every roofing material we install — what they cost, how long they last, how they hold up to Colorado hail, and which ones unlock insurance discounts.
Architectural asphalt shingles
Lifespan: 25–30 years · Cost: $$ · Hail rating: standard
The default roof on most Colorado homes. Multi-layered, dimensional shingles in dozens of colors. GAF Timberline HDZ, CertainTeed Landmark, and Owens Corning Duration are the proven choices. Replaceable in 1–2 days.
Best for: most homeowners. Insurance: standard rates, no premium discount.
Class 4 impact-resistant shingles
Lifespan: 30–50 years · Cost: $$$ · Hail rating: UL 2218 Class 4
UL 2218 Class 4 — tested to withstand a 2″ steel-ball impact without back-mat cracking. GAF Timberline AS II, Owens Corning Duration STORM, Malarkey Vista, and CertainTeed Landmark IR. Many Colorado carriers offer an impact-resistant roof discount on the wind/hail portion of your premium — amounts vary by carrier and policy.
Best for: Palmer Divide, Falcon, Monument, Black Forest. Insurance: IR discount available from many CO carriers (varies by policy).

Standing-seam metal
Lifespan: 50+ years · Cost: $$$$ · Hail rating: excellent (cosmetic dents possible)
Premium upgrade that often outlasts the homeowner. Hidden fastener system, baked-on Kynar finish, dozens of color options. We install Sheffield Metals standing seam and DECRA stone-coated steel — panels engineered to look like slate, tile, or wood shake while shrugging off hail. Minor cosmetic denting is possible but watertight integrity is preserved. Sheds snow, energy-efficient.
Best for: custom homes, Broadmoor, mountain properties. Insurance: some carriers exclude cosmetic dent coverage — read the policy.
Concrete & clay tile
Lifespan: 40–75 years · Cost: $$$$ · Hail rating: mixed
Distinctive look popular in higher-end Colorado Springs neighborhoods. We install Westile, Monier, and Eagle tile. Concrete tile resists hail well; clay tile is more brittle and can break in severe storms. Heavy — requires structural verification.
Best for: Broadmoor, Flying Horse, custom Mediterranean. Insurance: standard rates; cracked tiles fully covered.
TPO · EPDM · modified bitumen
Lifespan: 20–30 years · Cost: $$$ · Hail rating: impact-rated membranes available
Single-ply membrane systems for flat or low-slope roofs. TPO is the modern default — heat-welded seams, white reflective surface for energy efficiency. Common on commercial buildings and some modern residential additions.
Best for: commercial, modern residential, additions. Insurance: standard.
3-tab asphalt shingles
Lifespan: 15–20 years · Cost: $ · Hail rating: poor
The cheapest option. Single-layer flat shingles, more vulnerable to wind lift and hail cracking. Most older Colorado homes still have these. We replace 3-tabs with architectural or Class 4 — never reinstall 3-tab on a hail-prone property.
Best for: nothing in Colorado. Insurance: standard, but more frequent claims.
If you live in Colorado, get Class 4.
Colorado Springs averages 3–5 significant hail events per year. The premium for Class 4 over standard architectural is typically $1,500–$3,000 on a 2,500 sqft roof. When a carrier offers an IR discount on the wind/hail portion of your premium, the upgrade can pay itself back within a few years — discount size varies by carrier and policy, so confirm with your agent.
Tell us no, and we'll install standard architectural and never push back. We'll never sell you something you don't want.
